So now they're naming winter storms: Yogi, I believe. Joke here is we call it spring.
There was 4 feet of snow on Casper Mountain, about 20 inches at the house, record lows around 9.

Wyoming Skyline

Where art thou?

I live in Casper, a small city of about 60,000 located in central Wyoming. You can't go much further under the radar than here, but Casper is a little gem on the high plains that's quickly evolving from a gritty oil town to a more cosmopolitan small city.

Wyoming is the ninth largest state in the Union (it's bigger than Oregon in land area at 97,820 sq miles (253,300 km²)) and is the least-populated. Mountains, buttes, lakes, plains, desert - it's all here and it's a vast, awe-inspiring place to explore.

April has begun with perhaps the largest snowstorm this winter: a good 16 inches at the house. The warm weather is returning but we'll get at least one more snowstorm and around here, that last one could come in June!

I'm hopeful that in addition to the snow, it will be a spring full of rain and thunderstorms. They're very dramatic in a land where you can see for miles.

Toys

Ever since I was a kid, I've played around with cameras. From Instamatics to Polaroids, through to my first SLR (a Minolta x700) and 2-1/4 (Mamiya C330 Pro) and now digital, it's been a fun journey with a lens by my side.

I studied political science at the University of Iowa. While there, I worked as a student photographer within the hospital's Internal Medicine Department. That was a trip documenting various procedures. I was very darkroom - focused, working with Cibachrome, b&w and infrared. I even aquired my own darkroom setup with a vintage Beseler motor-driven monster. Ah, the good ole' days!

For years, my workhorses were my Nikon FE and my Ricoh KR-5 Super - both still proudly displayed, but sadly idle.

These days I shoot an Olympus E-520 which is a very capable, easy to use camera. Some of the pics here were shot on a Fuji Finepix compact or real old Olympus.
