Snake on the Plains
Crotalus viridis (Western Rattlesnake) I chanced upon on a bluff northwest of Casper, Wyoming.
It gave me a warning, thankfully, stared for awhile then slithered over the edge.

Smoke and Clouds
One last look at the 2012 Casper Mountain fire. This burned nearly 16,000 acres on the eastern third of the mountain. It looks like all of the timber is lost and it will be decades before new growth takes hold. In 2006, a fire wiped out the western third of the mountain and there's very little regrowth due to the climate and lack of water. It was determined the fire was man-made, likely an exhaust pipe or cigarette.
